Chinese woman jumps from 17th floor apartment in suspected suicide

The body of a Chinese woman, Guo Wenjing, was found dead on the ground floor of the Hayam Wuruk Apartment in Tamansari, West Jakarta, yesterday afternoon.

Guo was suspected of committing suicide by jumping out of her 17th floor apartment.

“After the ashar prayer, security guards from behind the prayer room went to the lobby after they heard a thud. When they checked it out, it turned out to be a dead woman,” said Tamansari Police Chief Afrisal, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

The victim, a Chinese national, had been living in apartment 1788 for the past three years.

“We believe [Guo] was a suicide victim. Other than that, there was a note in Mandarin inside the victim’s diary that read, ‘I’m sorry I haven’t been able to devote myself to my parents and say goodbye to them before I left,’” Afrisal said.

Guo’s body was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for an autopsy.
