The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) is investigating a citizen’s report that there is “pornographic content” being shown in a kids’ cartoon on national carrier Garuda Indonesia’s in-flight entertainment.

According to reports, the cartoon in question is the DC superhero team up series ‘Justice League’, which is one of 14 shows available for children in the current line up of Garuda’s in-flight entertainment on both domestic and international flights.

“KPAI has received complaints from citizens containing reports that there is a video with pornographic content that is shown on Garuda flights. The video is available in the kids’ section (of the in-flight entertainment),” said KPAI head Asrorun Niam, as quoted by Republika yesterday.

Would DC Comics actually show pornography in their cartoon for kids? Well, that depends on one’s definition for pornography.

Garuda Indonesia has actually addressed this issue earlier this month, after a passenger took to social media to complain about two kissing scenes in the Justice League episode shown on Garuda’s in-flight entertainment.

Overlaid texts read: “So sad… Is this what they call the mental revolution?” “Be careful mothers and fathers, protect our children. Come on child protectors, wake up!” “In Garuda airplane, kids’ video contains pornography.” Photo: Istimewa

“This was unintentional, we missed it. But we will carry out an action. In two days the film will not be available for access,” said Garuda Indonesia Corporate Communications Officer M Ikhsan Rosan, as quoted by Kumparan on July 6.

The airline has not given an update on whether or not they have removed the particular Justice League episode from their in-flight entertainment.

Nevertheless, KPAI has requested Garuda Indonesia to carry out internal reviews regarding the protection of children so that a similar incident won’t happen again in the future.
