Whether you like it or not, the Jakarta City Administration is enforcing a motorcycle ban along Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Merdeka Barat starting December 17, 2014. So it’s probably wise to find out where you can park your motorcycles as you head into Jakarta’s business district.
The city administration is preparing 11 parking locations for motorcycles:
“The 11 parking locations can hold 9,318 cars and 5,128 motorcycles [at the moment],” said Benjamin Bukit, deputy head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, as quoted by Kompas.com.
In addition, the Jakarta Transportation Agency will also optimize the parking spaces in IRTI Monas and the Carrefour Harmoni parking lot.
Benjamin could not clarify the parking fees in each of the 11 parking locations once the motorcycle ban is enforced.
“At the moment, the [parking fee] is set by each parking location,” he said.
The city administration is also preparing 70 double-decker buses to transport motorcyclists along Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat free of charge.
