Netizens were outraged when, last month, a man by the name of Charles Gond bragged on social media about torturing and killing stray cats. While photographic evidence of the tortured and/or dead cats has long since been taken down, his psychopathic claims about killing innocent animals remain online.
The screen capture below is perhaps the most disturbing. It appears Charles used his adorable Siberian husky, Jordan, as a killing machine to do his dirty work for him:
Charles himself claims that this was not an isolated incident. He went on to brag that he has tortured and killed numerous cats using various twisted means at his disposal:
If I shoot a cat with an airsoft gun from up close, the bullets tear right through the skin and stay in the body. I shot the cat many times but I never heard the bullets [come out] and bounce around.
It’s like war in the old days. The bullets are round.
Charles is a sick individual who believes he is on some sort of war or crusade against cats. But what motivated him to commit such horrific acts?
After being criticized heavily on social media, which also brought the matter to the attention of animal rights groups, Charles came up with this half-assed non-apology, explaining his hatred towards cats:
I’d like to apologize to all Facebook users in regards to the photos of cats and dogs and my subsequent comments some time ago… I want to clarify that I never pitted cats and dogs against each other… I let my dog roam free every night, and one morning I found it ‘torturing’ a cat in my yard. The cat was in a bad way and couldn’t walk. I thought, to spare it from the pain, I might as well kill it.
On the other hand, I hate cats because of one painful event in my life. I once kept rabbits, and those rabbits bred. The baby rabbits were eaten by a stray cat…
But I shouldn’t have uploaded the photos and comments that ‘bothered’ cat lovers. I apologize to all and I realize I was wrong.
Regardless of what his justification was, it is clear that Charles Gond should be punished for animal torture. As outraged netizens have managed to track down his address (supposedly in Solo, Central Java), we hope it’s a just a matter of time before someone reports him to the police. After all, animal torture that leads to death is punishable by the law with up to nine months in prison and a fine of Rp 3 million.
We also urge you to sign a petition at Change.org urging President Joko Widodo and the government to pay more attention towards animal cruelty. Charles Gond, and other animal torturers like him, cannot be left unpunished.
