Minati Atmanegara.
It seems that we live in a country where a driver who killed 4 people in an attempted hit-and-run probably won’t even see the inside of a prison cell, while a choreography plagiarist might spend 4 years behind bars.
Celebrity aerobics icon Minati Atmanegara was named a suspect for infringing the copyrights on some dance moves which were originally created and patented by another aerobics icon, Roy Tobing.
Roy said he created the dance moves and patented them at the Intellectual Property Directorate back in 2000. But he was outraged when he saw Minati copy his dance moves and teach them in her aerobics studio.
“As an artist, I feel cheated by this incident. This is my source of income,” Roy Tobing said, as quoted by Warta Kota.
Roy decided to report Minati to the police in November 2014 after Minati tried to patent the dance moves as her own.
“She took one of my male instructors, and tried to patent [the dance moves] in 2014, complete with cinematography,” he said.
Minati has stayed quiet about the ongoing controversy.
The police finally named Minati a suspect in the intellectual property plagiarism case this week. If proven guilty, she could face up to 4 years in prison.
