In case you were wondering, yes, Car Free Days will still be taking place every Sunday as usual during Ramadan. This was confirmed by the Department of Transportation today.
“Car Free Day will go ahead as usual. It will still be held,” Jakarta Transportation Chief Benjamin Bukit told Okezone.
It is likely that far fewer people will be out and exercising during these next few Car Free Days, considering the majority of Jakartans will be fasting and saving their strength.
This Sunday, June 21, also happens to be the 488th anniversary of Jakarta, but Bukit said he wasn’t sure if there would be any special events at Car Free Day to celebrate the occasion.
“For the moment, no activities have been scheduled,” he said.
Car Free Day takes place every Sunday along Jalan Sudirman and Thamrin from 6 am – 10 am.
