A man and a woman died early this morning after their car, a Honda Jazz, fell off the multi-storey car park in Depok Town Square mall.
26-year-old Muhammad Ubaidillah was driving with 22-year-old Dessy Khanti Hastuti in the front passenger seat as the two left a karaoke bar in the mall, which is located in Depok’s Beji district, at around 2:30.
The police believe that Muhammad lost control of the car when he smashed it past a barrier and plunged the car from the fifth floor of the car park all the way down to the first floor.
“The two victims died instantly due to fatal injuries to their heads,” said Beji Police Chief Commissioner Ni Gusti Ayu, as quoted by Tempo today.
The two victims were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta for an autopsy. After initial examinations, the police didn’t find evidence of DUI.
“At this moment we think [the accident happened] because the driver wasn’t yet adept at driving,” Ni Gusti said.
