The old adage, ‘any press is good press’, certainly rings true in this case, despite the fact that what’s being publicized here is a café where a woman died due to somebody poisoning her coffee.
Wayan Mirna Salihin’s death after drinking poisoned Vietnamese coffee at Olivier Café in Grand Indonesia has been the talk of the town and the national media over the past few weeks, mainly because of the mysterious circumstances of her death and the fact that the police still haven’t identified her suspected killer.
One might have assumed that all of the news would have seriously hurt Olivier’s business, but in fact it seems the café is inadvertently benefitting from it.
“Now people are coming here to try the phenomenal coffee [the kind Mirna drank before she died]. Maybe they’re all curious,” said an unnamed Olivier Café staff member, as quoted by Okezone today.
“We’re being marketed for free by the media,” they added.
Earlier this month, 27-year-old Wayan Mirna Salimin died after drinking coffee at Olivier. The police then found the coffee to have been contaminated with cyanide, leading them to believe that Mirna’s death was a homicide.
The police have not yet named any suspects, but they have questioned several witnesses, including Mirna’s friends who sat with her when she drank her coffee, and members of the café staff.
