Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said President Joko Widodo does not own a Facebook or Twitter account. So who on earth have we and millions of others been following all this time?

“The president does not own or hold any social media accounts, be it Twitter or Facebook. The Presidential Palace uses its official State Secretariat and Cabinet Secretariat websites to publish news on the president’s activities,” Andi said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday evening, as quoted by Kompas

Both the Facebook and Twitter accounts with Jokowi’s name have more than 2 million followers. Facebook and Twitter also verified both accounts with the tiny blue tick.

“There is no prohibition [for the existence of the social media accounts], so far there is no statement from the accounts’ owner that they are representing the president,” Andi said.

So who’s controlling Jokowi’s social media accounts then? The Facebook account, in particular, has been regularly updated, with the last post dating back to January 25.
