A bridge connecting the archives building and the Jakarta Library in Taman Ismail Marzuki collapsed, killing four and severely injuring five others on Friday morning.

According to Supri, a construction worker, the bridge collapsed at around 6 am.

“It felt like an earthquake this morning. It was very loud,” said Supri, as quoted by Kompas.com.

An emergency services officer said they haven’t determined the cause of the accident. But they already have plausible theories behind the collapse.

“The bridge didn’t have support pillars, so it collapsed,” he said.

The pillars hadn’t been installed because there was a functioning pedestrian path underneath the bridge.

Up until 12 pm, rescue workers were still looking for two bodies underneath the rubble. Meanwhile, the other two deceased victims were taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital while the five injured victims were taken to PGI Cikini Hospital.
