Death prematurely and cruelly did this Indonesian couple part, as the bride died mere moments before she would’ve tied the knot with her groom.

On Saturday, 20-year-old Palembang resident Elsa Putri Julita was going to marry 19-year-old Darmadi, her boyfriend of five years. They were supposed to say their vows in an Islamic ceremony at 2pm, but Elsa began complaining of chest pain at noon.

“She wasn’t made up by then. She wasn’t even wearing her wedding dress,” said Elsa’s father, Dwi Sayahrial, as quoted by Detik yesterday.

Elsa was then rushed to the hospital after her condition worsened. After being treated for around 15 minutes, she passed away at 1:30pm, to the shock of her fiance, family and guests.

Elsa’s family home, which had been the venue for their wedding, was turned into a funeral venue overnight.

Sayahrial said that he still considers Darmadi, a construction worker, to be his own son despite not marrying Elsa due to her untimely death.

“Ever since my daughter died, Darmadi has always been here and hasn’t gone home,” he said.

Sayahrial said that Elsa appeared in good health on the day of her planned wedding. According to the doctor’s diagnosis as told to Sayahrial, Elsa suddenly suffered from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), leading to further complications and her eventual death.
