BREAKING: Suspected terrorists attack Riau Police headquarters with sharp weapons, 2 cops injured

UPDATE 10:45 am – Riau Provincial Police Spokesperson AKBP Sunarto: In addition to the two injured cops, one police officer killed after getting hit by suspected terrorists’ car, one journalist injured, four perpetrators killed while at least one is on the run.

Yet another suspected terrorist attack occurred in Indonesia this morning — the first since the explosions in five sites in East Java on Sunday and Monday — this time the target being the Riau Provincial Police headquarters in the Riau capital of Pekanbaru.

According to reports from journalists at the scene, who were covering another story right before the attack, a white Toyota Avanza smashed into the outer fence of the police HQ. In the ensuing chaos, at least two suspected terrorists, both wearing balaclavas, were spotted getting out of the car wielding sharp weapons and attacking police officers.

“It all happened so fast. Suddenly people wearing masks got out and stabbed police officers at the scene,” said Doddy Vladimir, Tribun Pekanbaru reporter.

Doddy said the police shot and killed both perpetrators.

Riau Provincial Police Spokesperson AKBP Sunarto said two police officers were injured.

“Two police officers were wounded in the arms and head by the sharp weapons,” Sunarto told Detik.

According to reports, the suspected terrorists’ car is still parked outside police HQ. A bomb squad is being sent to investigate the car in case it contains explosives.
