Explosions rocked three churches in Surabaya, East Java, killing at least four people and injuring 33 others as confirmed by local police.
The deadly blasts hit Santa Maria Church in Ngagel Madya, Gereja Katolik Indonesia on Jalan Diponegoro, and Pantekosta Pusat Surabaya (GPPS) Church on Jalan Arjuno Surabaya. The explosions occurred within minutes of each other at around 7:30 am local time.
East Java Police Spokesperson Frans Barung in his latest update to the media at 10 am local time confirmed that at least 4 people were killed and 33 others were injured during morning service at the churches.
There have not yet been any claims of responsibility.
The attacks occurred just days after terrorist group Islamic State claimed responsibility of a prison riot in Depok, West Java, during which convicted terrorists executed 5 police officers.
