A woman found dead at a West Jakarta hotel underwent a breast enhancement procedure, police said, which was carried out by somebody who was not a cosmetic surgery professional.

The victim, 34-year-old RCD, was found dead in a hotel room in Tamansari, West Jakarta on Saturday. Preliminary police investigation into RCD’s death found that she may have died from complications resulting from a botched breast filler procedure carried out by an unlicensed practitioner.

“The [practitioner] is not a doctor. That is why we think there was wrongdoing there. But to confirm, we are still investigating,” Tamansari Police Crime Investigation Unit Head Roland Manurung told reporters today.

The person of interest was merely identified as a trans woman and a friend of the victim.

“[The victim] had an appointment for a breast filler injection, which cost IDR3.5 million (US$244). The person who arrived [to carry out the procedure] was not a medical professional, not a doctor, but a friend of the victim,” Roland said.

Police may file criminal charges related to medical malpractice against the alleged unlicensed practitioner.
