With all of the counterfeit goods being sold in Jakarta, you wouldn’t think anyone would get in trouble for violating copyrights. But one shop found out the hard way that copyright laws still exist in Indonesia.
PT Internux, the company that produces Bolt’s 4G internet modems, sued a local tech shop, Cumi Laut Software Development, for selling Bolt modems that they had unlocked, allowing it to be compatible with other internet providers – meaning Bolt’s customers could be steered away from their internet plan.
“To give the safety and comfort of our customers, we believe that justice for those who unlock [our modems] is important,” said PT Internux CEO Dicky Mochtar, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
“With unlocked modems, they usually re-sell them at a higher price, whereas our goal was to provide quality internet service at an affordable price.”
The case is currently being contested at the West Jakarta District Court.
