The mayor of Blitar and his wife were bound, gagged, and robbed in the early hours of this morning at their official residence, police said, adding that the two thankfully did not suffer any injuries despite the ordeal.

Local news outlets reported that a group of either 4 or 5 people robbed the official residence of Santoso, who became the mayor of the East Java city in 2020, and his wife Feti Wulandari between 3am and 4am.

The perpetrators reportedly also tied up three of the home’s security guards and disabled the house’s CCTV system before proceeding to rob Santoso and his wife at knifepoint.

The three security guards were reportedly members of Blitar’s Satpol PP (Public Order Agency).

None of the victims reportedly suffered serious injuries due to the incident. The robbers left the house with Feti’s jewelry and cash amounting to around IDR400 million (US$25,565).

Blitar Police Chief Argo Wiyono said that an investigation into the robbery is ongoing.

Under Indonesian Law, the perpetrators could face nine years behind bars for robbery.
