A 40-year-old man, identified by his initials APH from the province of Bengkulu, jumped to his eventual death from the third floor of Pondok Indah Mall (PIM) 2 — one of South Jakarta’s most popular shopping centers — yesterday evening.

As seen in CCTV footage of the incident, at 5:21 pm yesterday, APH was alone on the third floor of PIM 2 when he climbed over the glass barrier and fell all the way to the ground floor.

“From the CCTV recording his legs hit the ground first followed by his head,” Kebayoran Lama Police Chief Telly Alvin told reporters yesterday, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.

Alvin added that APH wasn’t immediately killed by the fall —  he was taken to nearby Pondok Indah Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, particularly the heavy cranial injury he sustained.

The police say they have yet to officially rule APH’s death a suicide. APH’s family in Bengkulu has been contacted to collect his body and aid the investigation wherever possible.
