Police officers in Bekasi are on high alert about what they eat after a police circular was issued warning them that terrorists may be trying to kill them by slipping cyanide into their food (a method of poisoning that is obviously very much on people’s minds these days given the ongoing investigation into the infamous cyanide coffee murder case).
“We’ve released a circular letter [for officers] to be more vigilant,” said Bekasi Police spokeswoman Puji Astuti yesterday as quoted by Tempo.
Puji said that the Bekasi Police did not provide meals for its officers, but that most of them took their meals outside or at the police headquarters’ kantin (cafeteria).
“We’ve informed the kantin manager to be careful with new people [working there],” said Puji.
Bekasi is not the only police force being warned of possible cyanide-based terrorism. The Surabaya Police recently released a similar circular to police officers throughout East Java warning them about the potential for poisoning.
Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Luhut Pandjaitan on Monday confirmed the threat himself, saying that ISIS associated terrorists were now attempting to use cyanide to spread terror, inspired by the cyanide coffee murder case in Jakarta.
