A fire swept through the offices of the mayor of Bekasi on Jalan Ahmad Yani starting at approximately 11 am this morning. The fire started in a room on the second floor and quickly spread throughout the building.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown. A number of employees panicked when the fire occurred and rushed out of the building. No fatalities have been reported and it looks like all of the employees managed to escape safely.
The flames engulfed the entire building and heavy winds caused the fire to also spread to the building of the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD) next door.
The Bekasi Fire Department sent two fire trucks to put out the flames. They were forced to break open windows with stones to allow their water hoses to attack the fire inside the building.
By about 11:45 the flames had been put out but smoke was still billowing from the building. The extent of damage to the building is not yet known.
