BCA clients lose their money as the bank experiences technical failure

Bank Central Asia (BCA) admitted to having technical issues with its banking system that led to changes in the amount of money stored in its clients’ bank accounts. Some clients saw a temporary increase in their accounts, but many more lost money instead.

BCA Company Secretary Inge Setiawan said a technical error led to a problem with the processing of the last transactions on December 8, 2014. Many transactions were delayed as a result.

“Some clients did not receive money from transactions from the day before,” Inge told Liputan 6 yesterday.

Inge gave the assurance that the technical error was fixed and the previously withheld transactions can now be processed.

“We’ve taken preventive measures to stop this from happening again in the future,” she said.

Previously, some BCA clients complained to the bank about missing funds in their account. One woman lost Rp. 8 million.

“I checked my balance at 3 pm, and somehow it decreased by Rp 8 million even though I hadn’t made any transactions,” Audita Atmadilaga said.

Audita tried calling the BCA call center to no avail.

“I called but it was always busy. I’m still trying now,” she said.

BCA hasn’t made a statement about returning money to people who lost money despite making no transactions, as in Audita’s case.
