Jakartans have been totally crazy about batu akik gemstones for a while, but we always knew that the fad would die down eventually. Such is the nature of anything trendy. There is, however, another business that will never go limp, simply due to human nature. That is, of course, the manufacturing and distribution of pornography
One man, identified by his initials AS, realized this truth a while back, leaving the batu akik trade to produce and sell porn DVDs in Jakarta.
Unfortunately his foresight did not get him that far, as sneaky police officers went undercover and busted his illegal operation.
“We found the production house in Taman Sari [West Jakarta] and found 1,000 pornographic DVDs as well as 300 master copies and a duplicating tool,” said Agung Marlianto, head of the Industries and Trade sub-directorate at the Jakarta Police’s Special Crimes directorate, as quoted by Vivanews today.
AS’ partner, a man identified by his initial R, is still on the run from the police.
AS and R were living it large after AS left the batu akik business. They sold an estimated Rp 200 million of naughty DVDs a month.
But now, AS is facing up to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp 10 billion.
