Luggage mix-up is an everyday certainty in the world of commercial aviation, and few passengers actually get reunited with their belongings without much frustration. One of those few is President Joko Widodo’s son Kaesang Pangarep.
This morning, Jokowi’s youngest, who is known for his cheeky and light-hearted persona, tweeted that Batik Air — the full-service sister airline of low-cost carrier Lion Air — had boarded his luggage on the wrong flight.
“Yay, I took Batik Air to Surabaya but my luggage arrived in Kualanamu (airport in Medan). Thanks, Batik Air,” he tweeted.
A few hours later, the 27-year-old tweeted, “The luggage is safe. Thank you, Batik Air,” along with another tweet showing that he has received his luggage.
Kaesang also retweeted tongue-in-cheek comments from netizens implying his privilege.
“It turned out that Batik Air’s service follows one standard. Everyone’s equal, there’s no differentiating the son of a president with the common folk,” one user tweeted.
Batik Air confirmed that it had misplaced Kaesang’s luggage but has returned it to the owner. The luggage was supposed to board a Sunday evening flight from Singapore to Surabaya but was placed in another flight.
“Batik Air apologizes for the discomfort,” Batik Air spokesperson Danang Mandala Prihantoro said.
Danang added that Batik Air has launched an investigation into what caused the mix-up in order to improve its service.
