Batik Air flight en route to Jakarta receives bomb threat, makes emergency landing in Makassar

A Batik Air flight flying from Ambon, Maluku to Jakarta received a bomb threat after it took off from Ambon this morning.

The air traffic control tower in the Pattimura Airport in Ambon received a text message about a bomb in the Batik Air flight at 7:05 WITA (Central Indonesian Time), after the plane was already in the air.

At 7:20 WITA, the plane made an emergency landing in Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

“It’s true there was a bomb threat, we’re evacuating the passengers [from the airplane],” said Angkasa Pura I Makassar Spokesman Rio, as quoted by Warta Kota today. 

The airport authorities reported the bomb threat to the police. The South Sulawesi Police are deploying its bomb disposal unit.
