Batik Air flight delayed after passenger jokes about having a bomb in his backpack

A flight to Palembang from Jakarta leaving Soekarno Hatta airport was delayed last Thursday after a passenger made an incredibly stupid joke that totally bombed with the flight crew.

Batik Air flight ID6770 was boarding when an East Jakarta resident, who police are identifying as YUS, made the wildly inappropriate remark.

YUS, who used to be a member of the Navy, was making his way to his seat when a flight attendant asked him to put his backpack in the overhead compartment. YUS seemed annoyed by the request and by the attendant asking what was inside his bag. YUS said that it contained a bomb.

The flight attendant immediately reported the remark to the airplane’s pilot who then contacted airport security

YUS’s backpack was immediately checked and x-rayed once again, revealing that it contained nothing but clothes, a laptop, toiletries and a cell phone charger. Then he was banned from the flight.

“Furthermore, according to our standard operating procedure, all passengers had to return to the gate and held in the security room,” said head of Soekarno-Hatta security CH Pattopoi, as quoted by Kompas.

The flight, which was scheduled to leave at 6:25 am, ended up leaving at 9 am instead, due to one idiotic joke.

Two weeks ago, a Batik Air flight was forced to make an emergency landing after authorities received a bomb threat, which also turned out to be fake.
