Bareskrim searches Haji Lulung’s office in relation to UPS corruption scandal at the Jakarta City Council

A meme poking fun at Haji Lulung’s UPS scandal

It’s been a long time coming, but the National Police’s Crime Investigations Directorate (Bareskrim) finally moved forward with their investigation into allegations of corruption in the Jakarta City Council.

Yesterday afternoon, Bareskrim officers searched a couple of offices at the Jakarta City Council looking for evidence in the alleged UPS markup scandal brought forward by Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama in early March.

“The searches [were conducted] in Fahmi Zulfikar’s office and Haji Lulung’s office,” said Muhammad Ikram, head of the Anti-Corruption sub-unit at Bareskrim, as quoted by Metro TV yesterday.

Jakarta City Council Deputy Chief Abraham Lunggana AKA Haji Lulung and Fahmi Zulfikar were no-shows at Bareskrim yesterday after the two were summoned as witnesses for investigation into the UPS scandal. Haji Lulung said he was in Manado to attend a function for his political party, the United Development Party (PPP).

Bareskrim’s search of the two offices concluded at around 9pm yesterday. Officers were seen carrying out three computer units, a box of documents, and a digital voice recorder.

Is this the beginning of Haji Lulung and the Jakarta City Council’s fall from grace? Not that they were graceful to begin with.
