Silmina, a 27-year-old employee at Bank Mandiri, was found dead on the rooftop of her homestay in Senen, Central Jakarta, early Monday morning. Police say she was raped and brutally murdered by 21-year-old Afdila Rizki, who worked at a nearby photocopier store.
“The victim had wounds on her neck, face, foot, eyes, and there was blood coming out of her genitalia,” said Grand Comr Hendro Pandowo, head of the Central Jakarta Police, as quoted by Merdeka yesterday.
“The victim was found on the rooftop [of her homestay] half naked, with wounds all over her body.”
The police arrested the suspect just hours after neighbors found Silmina’s body on the rooftop early Monday morning.
The suspect said he resorted to murder after the victim caught him red handed breaking into her room in an attempted robbery. The police found some of the victim’s belongings on the suspect when he was arrested, including a laptop, a smartphone, and Rp 42,000 in cash.
Locals say Afdila often got drunk and did drugs in the neighborhood. They also accuse the suspect of committing a couple of robberies in the past, but he was never reported to the police.
