Banjir, banjir everywhere: Jakartans might want to stay indoors this afternoon

Unless you’ve been napping for the past couple of hours, you probably noticed that it rained very heavily in the city for a while. If you look outside you’ll see that it’s still quite dark even though it’s only 4pm at the time of writing.

As a result, a lot of roads in Jakarta are inundated with floodwaters so it’s probably best that you avoid those roads. It’s always good idea to monitor @TMCPoldaMetro on Twitter before you plan out your journey, where you’ll find info about the worrying floods throughout the city like this:

“Flood in front of Balai Kartini (Jalan Gatot Subroto), road users beware.”

“Next to the Kebon Nanas TransJakarta bus stop, road users beware.”

“Rain storm in ten minutes many trees fell in Bekasi.”

“Fallen tree next to the Panin building in Senayan.”

“An adboard fell on a Kijang Innova in front of Fitzroy Gunawarman.”

We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution on the roads this afternoon. The rainstorm can, as evidenced by the photos above, be quite destructive.
