Badass teenage girls chase down motorcycle thieves to get mobile phone back

Jakarta is unfortunately full of petty, pathetic thieves who prey on people they think are unable to defend themselves, like teenage girls. But two would-be thieves learned this Saturday that there are few things people more determined in this world than a teenage girl who wants to get her stolen mobile phone back.

The attempted theft occurred on Jalan Dharma Putra in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta on Saturday. Two friends, 16-year-old Nabila Syarifa and 15-year-old Dinda Maizan were driving down the street at about 5pm when two thieves, identified by police as RR and IR, drove up next to the teenagers on another motorcycle before one of them grabbed Nabila’s phone out of her hand.

Other people might have too frightened to pursue two possibly dangerous criminals. But Nabila and Dinda did not back down. They sped up.

“Instead of being afraid, these women actually hunted down the perpetrators,” said Kebayoran Lama Police Chief Agus Rizal, as quoted by Wartakota.

While in hot pursuit of the perpetrators, Nabil and Dinda shouted “jambret” (motorcycle thief) repeatedly to try and get people’s attention. Finally a police car noticed their shouts and began pursuing the thieves as well until finally the would-be thieves were arrested about one kilometer from where the theft originally took place.

While we don’t exactly approve of teenagers driving around on motorcycles, we have to say we are extremely impressed with the way these young women handled themselves. We bet that, because of them, a lot of criminals will think twice before trying to steal a teenage girl’s phone.
