There are a lot of scumbag criminals out there in Jakarta who like to target women because they don’t think they will fight back. That assumption often turn out to be very, very wrong.
The latest badass Jakarta lady to take down her attacker was 46-year-old Harniti, who was targeted by a robber on Jalan Pintu Besar Utara in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, yesterday.
“The victim was sitting at the scene waiting for a person to exchange some money,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Commissioner Herru J today as quoted by Kompas.
While she was waiting, Harniti was being observed by 39-year-old Wasidin, who passed by her several times waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
Sensing the moment was right, Wasidin grabbed Rp 700,000 of Harniti’s money while threatening her with a silver pistol.
But Harniti was not having it. She not only grabbed the money back, she took his pistol too.
“The victim managed to re-take the money from the suspect’s hand and managed to throw the replica weapon held by the suspect,” said Herru.
That’s right, the pistol was just a replica, not the real thing. But since realistic looking fake guns are easy to purchase in Jakarta, and since we doubt Harniti was an expert in recognizing replicas, we’re guessing she didn’t know it was fake when she pulled it out of his hands.
Which makes her, like, a “Die Hard”-level badass.
Harniti then started screaming to get attention. Wasidin was not able to run away and ended up getting beaten up by an angry mob before he was eventually taken into police custody.
Some free advice for Jakarta’s scumbag criminals: don’t target women thinking they’re defenseless. There’s a good chance you will end up really, really regretting it.
