The Jakarta Police arrested dozens of suspects in connection to the robbery of a truck carrying coffee on Sunday. Police say they were hoping to catch a buzz by selling the stolen beans, but one of them ended up with a bullet in the leg instead.
The police caught the criminals by pursuing what they believe was the getaway car used for the coffee heist while it was driving from Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta, to Bekasi.
“The arrest was done following the pursuit of the perpetrators who fled in the car,” said Commissioner Krishna Murti Jaya, director of criminal investigation for the Jakarta Police on Sunday as quoted by Kompas.
The 11 suspects are believed to have targeted a coffee truck going from Surabaya to Bogor. Police say that the suspects blocked the truck and took it to their headquarters in Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
After receiving reports of the robbery, police chased the suspects to Kapuk Muara. There, police say the suspects resisted arrest until they tried to make a run for it in their car.
Police fired at the car door during the pursuit, hitting one of the suspects in the thigh.
Authorities are still investigating the case and have yet to announce what charges the suspects will face.
