The results are far from official, but with over 90% of the quick counts in and the incumbents, Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, trailing the challengers, Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, at around 42% to 58%, it seems all but certain that the incumbents have been decisively defeated in Jakarta’s bitterly fought and highly divisive gubernatorial race.
Gerindra party chairman Prabowo took to TV at around 3:40 pm (less than three hours after the vote closed) to declare the challengers the winners and Anies and Sandiaga have already given their victory speeches.
House Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon called it even earlier:
Gubernur Baru Jakarta, @aniesbaswedan . Terima kasih rakyat Jakarta. @Gerindra @prabowo pic.twitter.com/zlEGvkJUNw

Here’s how a few commenters, analysts and journalists are reacting to the news of Ahok’s loss:
The capital may "recover" briefly from the nastiness of identity politics and fear-mongering. But many of us will not forget or go quietly.

My prediction: 2019 will be way uglier than 2014 or even this election for sure because that is the lesson from this gubernatorial election.

Despite the recent close polls, it seems like the Agus votes all went to Anies, which is what we thought would happen in Feb #PilkadaDKI

If that's not a definitive victory, nothing is. Yet again the pre-elex polls were way out. https://t.co/WVE7SoS9kN

Thank you, @basuki_btp. Your hard work and dedication has made this city a much more tolerable place to live in. Good luck. We'll miss you.

So apparently we don't deserve Ahok.

It's gonna be a bumpy road ahead. Our hearts are broken. Our spirits shouldn't. Smangaattt, temen-temen!

Anies is one of Indonesia's foremost intellectuals. Fulbright scholar, PhD in PolSci. Not comparable to Trump's victory, IMO #PilkadaDKI

Light relief for dispirited Ahok supporters – maybe be could be the governor of mooted new capital in Borneo? https://t.co/xkDTFYf3vR
