An American Army soldier was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for his involvement “a scheme to buy guns and send them to a security detail for Indonesia’s president and vice president”, according to a report from The Associated Press.

A total of 23 guns were recovered from Audi Sumilat from El Paso, Texas. Last year, he pleaded guilty to the charges in New Hampshire. He was given his sentence on Saturday, Aug 26.

According to authorities, Sumilat said he was part of the scheme to purchase guns from Texas and “shipped them to a New Hampshire co-conspirator, who delivered them to guard members on visits to Washington, D.C., and to the U.N. General Assembly in New York.”

Law dictates that members of the Indonesian Presidential Guard may not legally purchase weapons on their own.
