Chilling CCTV footage of an alleged killer covering his tracks in Jakarta has gone viral, depicting his calm and friendly demeanor moments after taking someone’s life.
The Jakarta Metro Police yesterday arrested 36-year-old R for the alleged murder of 36-year-old AY. The victim’s body was found wrapped in a black trash bag by the Becakayu Toll Road in Pondok Gede, Bekasi on Monday evening.
During a press conference today, police said R and AY, who were friends, met at an apartment in Pramuka, East Jakarta on Monday to discuss plans to start a podcast together. During the meeting, R was triggered into a rage when a man named Hardiman rang AY.
“The suspect does not like Hardiman. According to the suspect, Hardiman had issues with him in the past,” Jakarta Metro Police Violent Crimes Sub-Division Chief Indrawieny Panjiyoga said today.
The argument escalated after AY insulted R and accused him of being just like his loan shark in-laws. R then repeatedly hit AY and strangled her until she died.
CCTV footage taken from the apartment building shows R wheeling a shopping cart into an elevator. The victim’s body, which had been wrapped in black plastic, was shoved into the cart. A blue bag and a white pillow were placed on top to conceal the body.
Throughout the clip, R appeared to be in a joyful mood as he smiled and conversed with other tenants in the elevator as if he did not just commit a serious crime.
R was charged with premeditated murder, which is punishable by life imprisonment or the death penalty.
