A body found in a corn field in the Blitar regency of East Java was confirmed to belong to a man who was under police investigation for child rape. His alleged victim is currently eight months pregnant.

The decomposed body of 53-year-old B was found yesterday among trees in the field. B’s head had detached from the body, as police believe that he hanged himself at the location two weeks ago.

Blitar Police spokesman Udiyono said that police had been pursuing B because he had gone AWOL during investigation for the rape case.

“He might have been under pressure, maybe because he didn’t have sufficient knowledge of the law so he was desperate and committed suicide,” Udiyono said today.

The police received reports about the rape in early May, and investigation into the case is still  in its early stages.

“Maybe [B was] frightened; he might also have been ashamed. The victim’s family reported B to the police,” Udiyono added.

B allegedly raped the underage victim on several occasions in early 2021 until she became pregnant.

B, who works as a laborer at a factory producing bricks, was scheduled to appear at the police station for questioning on May 19.

Based on information gathered by the police, B was last seen around his home on that date. In the evening, he texted his wife, saying that he wanted his children to inherit his belongings. Police believe B hanged himself immediately after sending the text.
