Votes are being cast in the second round of the hard fought and bitterly divisive Jakarta governor’s race even as this is being written. As with all controversial issues in the capital, a lot of the most heated debate about the elections and its candidates (incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat versus rivals Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno), have taken place online.

Voting day is no exception, with supporters taking to Twitter with dueling hashtags, #AhokToday and #AkuCoblosAniesSandi (I Choose Anies-Sandi) to show their support and, in many cases, the ink-stained finger they just used to vote for their candidate of choice. Here are a few that stood out to us:

“The face of Muslims who choose #AkuCoblosAniesSandi exit the voting booth with relief. Those who did not dare to raise their heads are certainly embarrassed after they made the wrong choice.”

“Thanks to those of you who lectured me on my selection. Those that said I’m just a Muslim on my ID card, that I’m an infidel. Sorry you couldn’t influence me.”

“Remember the independence of Indonesia was built on the basis of consensus of all peoples and religions. Not in the name of any one religion or one people.”

“If Ahok wins, the utilization of religion to gain power will not work anymore.”

“Thank God I have picked candidates No 3, for a Jakarta that is united, moving forward with happy citizens”
