Anybody who has to drive anywhere near the section of Jl. Gatot Subroto that passes by the infamous Semanggi clover knows that the area is perpetually gridlocked from early morning until late at night due to the snaking, slow-moving lines of traffic fiercely competing to get on and off the highway, onto the toll roads and into Plaza Semanggi,
Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has a plan to untangle the traffic knot by building an elegant looking flyover system that would circle the clover and allow drivers easier access to the highway.
“The construction on Semanggi will later allow those of us coming from Jalan MT Haryono wanting to go to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout can just take the flyover. And those coming from Grogol and wanting to go to Kebayoran Baru can also just take the flyover, shaped like a circle,” Ahok said at City Hall today as quoted by Kompas.
Ahok said that he is aiming to have construction on the flyover begin this April with the goal of having it finished by mid-2017. A Japanese construction company has been tapped for the project, which comes with an estimated price tag of Rp 500 billion.
