The Jakarta provincial government is sure that the capital’s supply of basic goods leading up to Ramadan next month is safe. Ample supplies should ensure that prices remain steady instead of skyrocketing because of higher demand, as is often the case during Ramadan.
“We’ve asked [PD Dharma Jaya, basic goods supplier] to keep an eye on basic goods supplies. Based on reports, all our needs for Ramadan are safe,” Ahok said at City Hall yesterday, as quoted by Metro TV.
In addition, Ahok has instructed traditional market regulators PD Pasar Jaya to keep a record of all merchants in Jakarta’s traditional markets to make sure they don’t raise prices on their own.
“If we find a cheap good being sold at a higher price, we’ll kick the merchant out of the market. Roughly speaking, that’s how it goes,” threatened Ahok.
