The Jakarta provincial government is going to issue a regulation that allows people to have sahur (the early morning meal eaten by Muslims before fasting during the day) feasts on Jakarta’s roads.
While sahur on the road is nothing new, Ahok is aware that people often litter after eating such meals in the past.
“They say cleanliness is a part of faith [in Islam],” Ahok said, as quoted by Tempo today.
Ahok said the provincial government is working together with religious figures in the city so that sahur on the road can be carried out in a disciplined way.
Sahur on the road is actually prohibited in Bogor this year. In the past, some people took advantage of quiet roads to commit vandalism against public property.
