Ever since the UPS scandal, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama hasn’t held back in revealing corrupt practices within the Jakarta provincial government and the City Council.
Today, Ahok criticized the provincial government’s proposed astronomical budget of Rp 409 billion to renovate the Velodrome Sports Complex in Rawamangun, East Jakarta.
“That’s crazy,” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Vivanews.
“What is being renovated? That (the budget) is the same as building a new complex.”
The budget was proposed by Jakarta’s Sports and Youth Agency, which was headed by the now-ejected Zainal Soleman, who is a suspect in the UPS scandal.
Ahok has instructed Jakarta’s Financial and Regional Asset Management Agency to block the budget proposal. The Velodrome sports complex’s renovation is postponed until at least next year.
