When Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama rekindled his bromance with former boss President Joko Widodo as the pair went blusukan last Wednesday, the governor took a ride inside the president’s kick-ass RI-1 presidential car. It seems Jokowi is giving Ahok ideas about the governor’s political future.

“Pak President asked me to ride in his car just so I can get used to riding in the RI-1,” Ahok said, as quoted by Tempo. 

Jokowi gave Ahok a brief tour of the car’s interior – including the car’s faults – as they were being driven to their blusukan destinations.

“I was told what device does what,” Ahok said.

“But I couldn’t press the power window button, because it could get jammed.”

We doubt very much that the power window of the RI-1 could ever get jammed. We think naïve Ahok wasn’t allowed to roll down the window for safety reasons – the windows are bulletproof after all.

Nevertheless, Ahok said he and Jokowi joked with each other for the whole car ride. We can totally imagine the two high fiving each other in the car while smoking cigars and saying, “ahhh mate, look how far we’ve come. This is the life.”

That is, of course, until they return to the real world and realize how many problems in the city and the country they have to take care of.
