After One Direction concert, Gelora Bung Karno Stadium ready to host U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers tonight

Many worried that Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) in Senayan, South Jakarta would be unable to host both the One Direction Concert and soccer matches for the U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers just two days apart from each other (the destructive power of screaming teenage girls being hard to overestimate…).

But through a sheer luck and a touch of wizardry (we can only assume), it looks like GBK is able to host both events after all.

GBK Management confirmed that the stadium, and more importantly, the pitch, are in great condition for some soccer matches starting tonight.

“There’s no problem with the pitch, even though there are small imprints [on the grass] from the concert stage,” said Raja Parlindungan Pane, management director of GBK, as quoted by Goal Indonesia yesterday.

“After 11:30pm [on the day of the One Direction concert on March 25] everything [related to the concert] was taken down. Everything was carried out according to plan. Not just with the stage, but also in terms of cleanliness.”

I Gede Widiade, manager of the Indonesia U-23 National Team, also checked out the pitch and was satisfied by its condition.

Indonesia U-23 will take on U-23 sides of South Korea, Timor Leste, and Brunei Darussalam at GBK March 27 to 31.
