After model goes missing, father says she’s already been found, mother says not yet

Daya Nur Setianai

Daya Nur Setiani, a 23-year-old woman who works as a model, was reported lost by her family on Wednesday, November 24. On Saturday, the police in Bandung announced that Daya had been found. But Daya’s family is giving the media contradictory reports about her current status. Her father said that Daya had indeed come home but her mother says her daughter is still missing.

And so far, nobody in the media has seen her to confirm that Daya is in fact at home right now.

Daya’s father, Mohammad Sofri, said his daughter was brought home from Bandung by her husband. He said that Daya was found after someone recognized her from media coverage about her disappearance.

“She’s home, but still dazed,” Mohammad said as quoted by Tempo. According to him, Daya had not been questioned by her family or the police about her mysterious disappearance because she was still weak and sleeping.

Depok Police Chief Commissioner Dwiyono confirmed Mohammad’s version of the story, saying, “She was found by family with the help of police after she was reported missing last Wednesday.” According to him, Daya somehow got lost while riding public transportation and ended up in Bandung.

However Kartini, Daya’s mother, has a very different account of what’s happened. According to her, Daya is still missing. Kartini said she last saw her daughter last Tuesday afternoon, when she went to fix her pearl ring.

According to Kartini, Daya planned to get her ring fixed and then go to a dentist appointment in Tebet, but she never showed up there and still hasn’t come home.

“My daughter has still not been found. So, I will report back to Police Headquarters,” she said.

Kartini’s neighbors said that she had told them the same thing and had even gone to a psychic in the hopes of finding her daughter.

We hope that Kartini is simply confused or lying, but the fact that nobody has been proven to have seen Daya since she was supposedly found is troubling. We’ll have to wait to see whose version of the story is true.
