A member of the Central Jakarta Police, 29-year-old Brigadier Wahyudi (29), died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head last Friday night. According to the late officer’s girlfriend, whom police are identifying as DA, Wahyudi committed suicide after having a heated argument with her.
“The victim allegedly often pointed a gun at his head during altercations between him and DA,” said Kalideres Police Assistant Commissioner Khoiri on Saturday as quoted by Kompas.
Khoiri explained that Wahyudi had visited DA’s home in Pegadungan, Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Friday morning.
Wahyudi and DA then left the house and returned there at around 11:00 pm.
Shortly after their return, Wahyudi got into a fight with DA. However, Khoiri said he did not know the cause of the argument.
At that point, Wahyudi allegedly threatened to commit suicide several times by pointing a gun to his own head.
When they arrived at the crime scene, police found Wahyudi lifeless on the second floor of the house wearing a red T-shirt and shorts.
Near his feet police found a revolver-type gun. There was also a bullet lodged in the wall of the house, at about the same level as where Wahyudi’s head would be while standing.
Police say Wahyudi had a gunshot wound to his right temple. “We believe the victim fired a pistol from the left through to the right side of his head,” Khoiri said.
After the incident, police examined five witnesses. Most of the witnesses were members of DA’s family, including her mother and two sisters, who were in the house at the time the incident took place.
Wahyudi’s body was taken to the Police Hospital in Kramatjati, East Jakarta, for further examination.
