After botched robbery in West Bekasi, criminal tries to escape police by slitting his own throat

A 25-year-old mobile phone vendor, Apung Pang, was stabbed yesterday during an attempted robbery on his shop, “Konter Jakarta Cell” in Kelurahan Kranji, West Bekasi. After being surrounded by police, the robber tried to make the ultimate escape but failed.

Jakarta City Police Head of Public Relations Siswo said the incident began when another 25-year-old man named Yunus came to Apung’s counter trying to sell him a mobile phone. While at the store, Yunus asked for permission to pee in the back.

When he got to the back of the store, Yunus pretended that his ring had fallen and asked Apung for help.

“The victims was in the back, looking for the ring that fell,” Siswo said, as quoted by Merdeka.

While Apung was searching, Yunus stabbed Apung in the back. Apung ran outside and grabbed a knife, shouting that there was a robber.

“There happened to be five members of the Samapta Police nearby at the time,” Siswo said.

According to him, the police officers surrounded Apung and Yunus, along with some other people. The officials then fired off three warning shot, which made Yunus go into a panic.

And, in that panic, Yunus attempted suicide by slitting his own throat with a vegetable knife that happened to be in a nearby kitchen.

“So the perpetrator experienced wounds to his neck and is now in hospital,” Siswo said.
