As if it wasn’t shocking enough that a middle-class Jakartan couple neglected their five children, including their 8-year-old son AD who they kicked out of the house to sleep and eat at their neighbors’ homes for at least a month, it also turns out that the parents have been using drugs for at least the past six months.
The revelation came when authorities found a stash of methamphetamines weighing 0.58 grams after they raided the family’s house in Citra Gran Cibubur last Thursday. The father, identified by the police as T, and the mother, identified as N, admitted to doing drugs when they were interrogated by the police.
“From their statements, they have been consuming methamphetamines since six months ago,” said Eko Daniyato, Director of the Narcotics Directorate at the Jakarta Police, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
But the police don’t yet know if T and N consumed drugs right in front of their kids or in private.
The parents have yet to be charged with violating drug laws on top of their child neglect charges, as the police have yet to test them for drug use.
“We’ll find out on Monday. We only received them (the parents) last Friday, and we had the day off on Saturday. There will be a urine test in the National Police Forensics Lab on Monday,” Eko said.
