99 boys victims of child prostitution ring in Bogor: police

The police may have carried out one of the biggest child prostitution ring busts in Indonesia with up to 99 boys possibly being victims of sexual trafficking in Bogor.

The National Police’s Cyber Crimes Unit on Tuesday arrested AR, a suspected pimp, in Cipayung, Bogor, who advertised underage sex workers under his employ on social media. At the time, the police found 8 of AR’s exploited sex workers, 7 of them underage boys.

After further investigation, AR admitted to the police that his operation was larger than previously feared.

“Not just 7 [children], from his (AR’s) list there are 99 victims,” said the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department special economic crimes director Brigadier General Agung Setya, as quoted by CNN Indonesia yesterday.

The victims allegedly served male pedophiles, who AR charged Rp 1.2 million per transaction. AR rewarded the victims up to Rp 150,000 each for serving his clients.

The police say they are working to uncover the identities of the 99 boys. They are also open to the possibility of there being a child trafficking syndicate beyond AR.

AR, who is a married man, has been punished for facilitating child prostitution before. He was reportedly jailed for 2.5 years for exploiting underage girls in his previous operation. For his latest alleged crime, AR may be charged with up to 12 years in prison for violating child protection laws.
