Alarmingly (although not surprisingly), corruption has found its way into our schools. The Jakarta Education Agency recently announced that it had found nine school principals in Jakarta guilty of accepting bribes.

Head of the Jakarta Education Agency Arie Budhiman said they managed to uncover the practice based on reports from concerned citizens. The identities of the nine school principals have not been disclosed yet.

Lasro Marbun, head of the Jakarta Inspectorate, said Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has instructed the Jakarta Education Agency to give sanctions to the nine school principals. They may even be fired from their jobs.

“The nine school principals were reported to the governor and a letter was issued to the head of the Education Agency to give sanctions to the principals. We believe the Education Agency will uphold the rules so this could be a lesson to other principals. They (the nine principals) will be removed from their positions,” Lasro said, as quoted by Warta Kota today.

The Jakarta Education Agency will hold a press conference regarding updates on the case later today.
