8 schools drop charges against organizer of controversial high school bikini pool party

Eight high schools in Jakarta dropped their charges against events organizer Divine Production, which was responsible for planning the highly controversial “Splash After Class” high school bikini pool party in April.

Each of the eight schools had been been listed as supporters of the event on the party’s promotional poster.

Immanuel Tulus Hasiholan, the head organizer of the bikini party, said they and the eight schools came to an understanding after Divine Production made a formal apology.

“We also made an apology video on Youtube. And now, we’re apologizing through the media,” Immanuel said, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

Two other schools that were listed on the poster as supporters, SMA Muhammadiyah Rawamangun and SMA Alkamal, have not dropped their charges. But Immanuel said Divine Production will soon meet with representatives of the two schools in an attempt at reconciliation.

The “Splash After Class” bikini pool party was an event planned for April 25 at The Media Hotel and Towers in Central Jakarta, to celebrate high school graduation. It was cancelled after the event drew the outrage of many, including the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), which argued the event’s dress code violated social norms and could lead to violence against women.
