Sederhana is arguably the most popular restaurant chain serving delicious Padangnese dishes in Indonesia. Sadly, tragedy struck one of their outlets in Jakarta today.
At 7 am this morning, a 3 kg gas canister used for cooking exploded inside a Sederhana restaurant located in Slipi, West Jakarta, injuring eight.
“Six were restaurant employees,” Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Awi Setiyono told Merdeka, before adding that all six received varying burns of varying degrees, with two of the victims receiving burns on over 40% of their bodies.
In addition, two motorcycle taxi drivers who happened to be in the vicinity of the blast sustained minor burn injuries and cuts from shards of glass.
All of the victims were taken to Pelni Hospital in Petamburan.
It’s not clear what caused the gas canister to explode.
Just last week, 13 people were injured when a gas pipe leak led to an explosion in Gandaria City mall.
