7 workers burned by molten iron in Bekasi steel factory workplace accident

Just a couple of weeks after a fire engulfed the PT Mandom factory in Bekasi, killing 17 and injuring 40 others, another fire-related accident occurred in the industrial area of Bekasi.

Seven workers were reportedly injured in a workplace accident in PT Gunung Garuda’s steel and iron factory in West Cikarang on Tuesday afternoon.

At the time, several workers were dealing with molten iron when the raw material reportedly splashed onto the seven workers.

“Some were [splashed] on the legs, arms, and face,” said Bekasi Regency Police Chief Rickynaldo, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

The police are investigating the factory’s management as they only reported the incident to the police late in the afternoon, despite the accident occurring in the early afternoon.

The seven victims were taken to be treated at several hospitals in the area. Two have already been discharged from their hospitals.
